Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) Activities and Scope – The Basics

When creating a schedule in Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC), you should consider using the Scope App in conjunction with the Schedule App. With the Scope app, you can create scope items and choose whether to connect them to activities in the schedule, depending on your project requirements. Scope items are the materials or products needed to complete a project.

While in the Scope App, you can create scope items in the Scope Items window.

Scope Items can be assigned to work packages and activities in the Scope Assignments window. Work packages are used to track and manage the installation of scope assignments. You can specify the Progress Measure for a Work Package, which enables you to set how progress is measured against scope assignment in work packages.

OPC can be used to manage your schedule, and to manage scope assignments. You can link your activities to scope assignments and work packages.

When entering updates, if work packages or their scope assignments are associated with activities, this is handled through the activity updates (remember to set your project baseline before progress is entered).

One thing to keep in mind is that schedule costs and scope costs are calculated separately. Linking a work package or scope assignment with an activity won't link those costs together. While each activity can have multiple scope assignments linked to it, an individual scope assignment can only be linked to a single activity.

You can set a default scope percent complete method by configuring it in the project settings.

OPC offers Schedule and Scope App functionality to help monitor progress more efficiently. Link work packages to activities when you want to manage work package dates using activity dates. Link activities to scope assignments when you want to manage scope assignment dates using activity dates.

Consider what you are tracking, how you will be handling status updates, and what kind of reporting you require. Once you understand all these things, you will be able to utilize OPC’s functionality to your advantage.
