Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) Task Constraints – What Function Do They Serve?
In the Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) Tasks app, the Constraints page allows you to display and track the issues, materials, and deliverables in your project that may prevent work on a task from beginning. Each constraint is assigned to the company and individual (user) responsible for addressing it. Each constraint is assigned three dates - when the constraint is estimated to be resolved, when it needs to be resolved, and once the constraint is resolved, the resolved date.
A constraint can impact the start of one or more tasks, and each task can potentially have multiple constraints. Using task constraints is optional in OPC, but it provides the ability to define project tasks and requirements in greater detail. The goal is to ensure all constraints are identified and resolved before the associated task is scheduled to begin. Each constraint can be associated with one or more public tasks.
Once a promised date is entered, the constraint status will change to Planned. Hover over the icons in the Dates Needed column to display the icon details.
Creating each constraint allows the user to enter a detailed description, upload or link related files, and link the constraint to document packages in Aconex (if you are using Aconex).
A screenshot of the Aconex lobby is below.
When the constraint is resolved, ‘deliver’ the constraint. The delivered date of the constraint is automatically set to the current date, but is editable in the Delivered Date column. The status of the constraint is updated to Delivered.
In the work plan, you can identify tasks with assigned constraints by the pyramid icon. Hovering over the icon will display the number of pending constraints on the task.
Constraint assignments can also be viewed in the task list.
You can also create reports for task constraints.
Task constraints can be applied to the tasks in your project when you are using the Tasks app in OPC. OPC also has activity constraints and the project level constraint available for use as required.
