Does the Version of Primavera P6 Matter When Attending Training?
When registering for Emerald’s Primavera training courses, people often ask these kinds of questions:
- What version of P6 is this training based on?
- If I am using version 7 (8.1, 8.2, etc.) at work, will it be OK for me to take the training course on the latest version?
The truth is the version does not really matter. Indeed, with each new release, Oracle is making enhancements and adding functionality to the tool, making it even more attractive for the end users in different industries. At the same time, the core functionality of the tool remains the same.
When you have attended a training course based on a more recent release of the software, it means you will be very well equipped (i.e. armed with information) to use the tool when you return to work. In addition to the fundamental knowledge of the core functionality, you will also be aware of all future enhancements that you will eventually get when your company does an upgrade. Additionally, you will be better prepared than your colleagues who have been trained on an earlier version of Primavera P6, as our training always includes the most recent tips and tricks taking into consideration the latest enhancements introduced to the tool.
On a side note, it is still beneficial to let your trainer know what version of P6 you are currently working with. He or she will be happy to give you some extra tips, tricks and recommendations pertaining to the specific version of Primavera that you are using. Also, in the open training courses, we have students who come from different companies and industries that may have different versions of Primavera P6. This creates a unique atmosphere in the class where students can share their common concerns, questions, and experiences. This allows the class to quickly absorb some peculiarities of the different versions of the software.
As for choosing client-based or web-based training for Primavera P6 (Emerald conducts training courses for both), you should consider which version (client or web) you will be utilizing most of the time at work and then choose the training accordingly. If you happen to have both applications at work, you should let your trainer know, so that he or she can answer any specific questions as to the differences of working with the client and web versions of Primavera P6.
